Welcome to Memórias da Serra Chalet, a cosy mountain retreat located in Penhas da Saúde, one of Portugal’s most emblematic Mountain Villages, in the heart of Serra da Estrela. At around 1,600 metres of altitude and just 10 km from the Torre — the highest point in mainland Portugal — this chalet offers the perfect setting for those seeking tranquillity, comfort and a genuine connection with nature.
Recently renovated, both inside and out, Memórias da Serra Chalet combines the charm of mountain architecture and traditional wooden chalets with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay throughout the year. Surrounded by landscapes of rare beauty, it is the ideal starting point for exploring Serra da Estrela’s trails, discovering lagoons and glacial valleys, practising winter sports, cooling off in refreshing mountain lakes during warmer days, or simply enjoying the silence and grandeur of the mountains.
Accommodating up to 6 guests, the house features three comfortable bedrooms, including one double bed and four single beds. For families with young children, it is also possible to add a cot or another suitable mattress. The accommodation includes two bathrooms — one full bathroom and one service bathroom — providing extra convenience during your stay.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, stovetop, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and toaster, allowing you to prepare meals with ease. The living room, equipped with a television, invites you to moments of relaxation and togetherness after a day exploring the mountains.
During the colder months, comfort is ensured by an efficient heating system through a pellet stove with central heat distribution, complemented by air conditioning. For your convenience, pellet bags will always be available during your stay.
Its privileged location allows you to discover some of the most beautiful landscapes of Serra da Estrela throughout the year. In winter, snow transforms the region into a magical setting, ideal for mountain activities and enjoying the chalet’s cosy atmosphere. In spring and summer, the trails, lagoons, viewpoints and mountain villages reveal the natural and cultural richness of this unique region.
Mountain gastronomy is another major highlight of the area. The famous Serra da Estrela cheese, traditional cured meats, roasted kid, game dishes and the authentic flavours of the mountains offer unforgettable experiences for food lovers.

In the hosts’ own words
First of all, let us introduce ourselves: we are four — Marta, Ricardo, and the two flowers of our mountain, Margarida and Francisca.
We are a family that has always found some of life’s happiest moments in nature. When we discovered this place, almost by chance during one of our trips, we immediately felt something special. The silence, the landscape, the energy of the mountain… it was truly love at first sight. And we realised that this could be the refuge we had always imagined — a space where families could pause, breathe deeply and enjoy what truly matters.
We created Memórias da Serra— Chalet with great affection, so that everyone who arrives here feels at home.
